ESPN provide latest update on Cowboys wide receiver CeeDee Lamb: “Very little movement”

The latest update on the Cowboys’ star receiver, provided by ESPN’s Adam Schefter, does not provide much hope in the everlasting CeeDee saga.

As of Monday afternoon, the only update on CeeDee Lamb’s potential contract extension was that there isn’t one yet, that the $33 million the Cowboys offered him was rejected by Lamb, and that owner Jerry Jones said that he’s happy that Lamb hasn’t been risking injuries with the team during training camp.

Oh, and then of course there was another social media frenzy when Lamb posted a picture of Spiderman in his black and silver venom suit that caused all kinds of theories.

Well, later that night, ESPN’s Adam Schefter provided another discouraging “update”.

What did Adam Schefter say about CeeDee Lamb?

Basically, what Schefter said was that although moving numbers can be complicated, it really shouldn’t be this complicated that it’s taking so long for the Cowboys to get it done. He also mentioned concern about Lamb’s physical shape. Despite the fact that he’s been consistently working out throughout this offseason, it’s not quite the same as actually training on the field, with the team.

Schefter reiterates that throughout the league, there is indeed the expectation that the deal will get done before the start of the regular season. It’s just a matter as to what exactly the holdup is - the dollar amount, the length of the contract, all of the above? Either way, there’s really no reason it shouldn’t already be done.

“There hasn’t been a lot of movement, but yet there continues to be a sense across the league that this deal will get done and that CeeDee Lamb will not miss any time and he’ll be there for the Cowboys’ regular season opener,” Schefter said on ESPN’s Fantasy Football Marathon.

“Now, again, what goes against that is here we are on Monday, August 19th again, and CeeDee Lamb still isn’t in camp when there is a road map for all the top wide receiver deals. Field [Yates], we could sit down and have this deal hammered out before the end of this fantasy football marathon and yet the Cowboys and CeeDee Lamb continue to go on without striking a deal.”

“At the very least, even if they are able to figure it out at some point this week, it’s going to take CeeDee Lamb a little bit of time to get back in shape,” Schefter continued. “The conditioning factor. You can ask our injury expert Stephania Bell to ask about the chances of some sort of soft tissue, muscle strain when you come in this late and miss training camp. But the fact of the matter is I think most people believe this deal will get done and it’s a surprise that it’s not done to this point.”

The Cowboys open the regular season when they play the Cleveland Browns on the road on Sunday, September 8.
