Update:

Week 2 of the NFL season brought fireworks for fantasy managers, with several big-name stars bouncing back in a major way. Jared Goff torched his former offensive coordinator with five touchdowns, while Russell Wilson turned back the clock with a 450-yard outing. Rookie Drake Maye impressed with three scores, and Mac Jones kept the 49ers afloat in Brock Purdy’s absence.

Jonathan Taylor, James Cook, and a slew of top receivers, including Malik Nabers, Ja’Marr Chase, and Amon-Ra St. Brown, reminded everyone why they were early-round picks. Even tight end Juwan Johnson emerged as a reliable weekly option despite shaky QB play in New Orleans.

Not everyone thrived, however. Jalen Hurts delivered little outside his customary short rushing TD, Derrick Henry disappeared in the Ravens’ blowout win, and Marvin Harrison Jr. logged another dud performance, raising concerns about his role in Arizona. Injuries also clouded the week, with Joe Burrow sidelined by a severe turf toe injury that could cost him months, Justin Fields entering concussion protocol, and Aaron Jones leaving Sunday night with a hamstring issue. Add in miscues from rookies like Kaleb Johnson and Braelon Allen, plus JJ McCarthy’s turnover-heavy showing, and fantasy managers had plenty of reasons to head back to the waiver wire.

For now, let’s focus on those top performers of the week at each position.

NFL Fantasy Football 2025: Week 1 top scorers

Quarterback

Jared Goff, Detroit Lions - 33.96: Goff bounced back from an awful Week 1 performance to lead the Lions to a 52-21 victory over the Bears on Sunday. Goff finished the game with an 82% completion rate, 334 passing yards, and five touchdowns. On top of that, he was never sacked and threw zero interceptions.

Wide Receiver

Amon-Ra St. Brown, Detroit Lions - 39.20: Three of those five touchdown passes from Goff went to St. Brown. And like Goff, this was a bounceback game for the two-time All Pro. He went from 4-45-0 against the Packers to 9-115-3 on Sunday.

Running Back

Jonathan Taylor, Indianapolis Colts - 29.50: Taylor is a consistent offensive threat in Indy. In the Colts’ comeback win. over the Broncos, he had 27carries for 165 yards and added a 43-yard catch and one touchdown catch. He’ll continue to get touches, and he’ll very likely continue to convert them into significant yardage.

Tight End

Tucker Kraft, Green Bay Packers - 24.40: Kraft was Jordan Love’s favorite target in the Packers’ win over the Commanders on Thursday. He led in targets, receptions, and yards, finishing with 6-of-7 for 124 yards and a touchdown. Although an injury to Jayden Reed may have contributed to his target load, he’s set to be a star every week.

Defense

Atlanta Falcons - 21.00: The Falcons defense held the Vikings to just six points while logging six sacks, 16 quarterback pressures, and four turnovers on Sunday. Rookie safety Billy Bowman Jr. recorded his first career interception (and Atlanta’s first of the season) after snagging a sideline pick off J.J. McCarthy, rookies Jalon Walker and James Pearce Jr. each logged their first career sacks, while Bowman and Xavier Watts both grabbed their first interceptions. Even second-year defenders Ruke Orhorhoro and Brandon Dorlus joined in with their first sacks.

Kicker

Brandon Aubrey, Dallas Cowboys - 20.00: Aubrey is often the player who wins games for the Cowboys, and he did it again on Sunday as they struggled to defeat the Giants. It was an Aubrey field goal that tied the game in the final seconds and sent it into overtime, and it was an Aubrey field goal that won it. Not only did he make all four of his field goal attempts, but his game-tying one was from 64 yards - and he made it look easy.
