Fantasy Waiver Wire Week 5: Why you should pick Packers WR Dontayvion Wicks
Things are getting chaotic in fantasy football heading into Week 5 as even more injuries present themselves. Wicks is a pick you might want to think about.
The Green Bay Packers weren’t able to ruin the Minnesota Vikings’ win streak in Week 4, despite their late comeback attempt. In Jordan Love’s first game back after missing two weeks with a knee injury, he threw four touchdowns and three interceptions. But we’re not here to talk about him. We’re here to talk about one of the receivers on the other end of those TDs.
Dontayvion Wicks: Top fantasy waiver pick Week 5
Wide receiver Jayden Reed had seven catches for 139 yards and a touchdown and wide receiver Dontayvion Wicks had five catches on 13 targets for 78 yards and two touchdowns. The main reason Wicks saw such an increase in production is because Christian Watson was forced out of the game with an ankle injury.
Watson has managed to avoid season-ending injury, but is likely to be put on Injured Reserve, which would mean he’s about to miss at least four weeks. And that means that Wicks should continue to be more involved in the coming month.
Wicks was a sleeper pick for many at the start of the season after he finished his rookie season with 39 receptions for 581 yards and four touchdowns. As Watson and Romeo Doubs continue to have injury woes, Wicks looks to play a more significant role, at least while they’re out. His performance in Week 4 earned him 24.8 fantasy points, the fourth-highest of any receiver (before Monday’s games).
Wicks is worth a pickup if you need a WR or if you had Watson on your team. He and Love are a dynamic duo, he looks to be here to stay for a bit while Watson is out, and at least in Week 5, he has a favorable matchup when the Packers play the Los Angeles Rams, who’ve allowed the eighth-most fantasy points to wide receivers.
