Freak collision leaves Raiders safety with broken fibula
The Las Vegas Raiders will be without a key defensive piece for the foreseeable future after a horror injury sustained in team practice.

The Las Vegas Raiders will be without safety Lonnie Johnson Jr. after he suffered a serious injury during a training session collision on Sunday.
ESPN reports that Johnson was taken from the field in cart after a collision with teammate Maxx Crosby. The two players were trying to tackle running back Raheem Mostert when the coming-together happened, with Johnson suspected to have suffered a broken fibula.

The Raiders will carry out an MRI on Johnson to better understand the extent of the damage and a timeline for his return should be made public in the next few days.
Johnson signed with the term earlier this offseason, agreeing a one-year deal worth $1.6 million. He was expected to compete for a backup spot in the Raiders’ defensive structure, as he did for much of the 2024 season with the Carolina Panthers.
Since being drafted by the Houston Texans in 2019, Johnson has had a nomadic career in the NFL. He went on to sign with the Chiefs, Titans and the Saints, before his more recent stints with the Panthers and the Raiders.
