From the pros back to college? Browns running back Judkins pondering possibility

For a long time the line between pro and amateur athletes was clear. Now with the new look NCAA and new rules things are a bit more murky these days.

Update:

The Cleveland Browns have had one of the busiest offseasons in the NFL. Shedeur Sanders has dominated headlines, but it’s one of their other rookies that could make a historic move back to college football.

No charges for Judkins

While it’s never happened before, it appears that it is a possibility for running back Quinshon Judkins. The Browns are yet to sign the 36th pick in the NFL Draft to a contract, and the league is in the process of investigating a potential Personal Conduct Policy violation.

The investigation stems from an incident back in July in which Judkins was arrested for a misdemeanor domestic violence. No formal charges were filed against the former Ole Miss ball carrier.

Despite no charges being filed and Judkins not having a contract with the Browns, the NFL continues to look into the matter and will decide if they will take further action. That leaves the door open for what could be a historic regression back to the college game for Judkins.

NFL CBA doesn’t disallow return to college

The NCAA rules have rules are still considered to be an antitrust violation which leaves some room for interpretation to the rules and regulations we have come to know from the collegiate organization. Four West Virginia players were issued an injunction by a federal judge after their eligibility waver for the coming season was denied by the NCAA.

Eligibility isn’t in question here. The question at hand concerns a player that has already entered the NFL Draft and got drafted by a team. While the Browns didn’t select him in the second round, he has not yet signed a contract and that, according to the NFL’s Collective Bargaining Agreement the possibility of returning to college after entering the draft is real.

If Judkins did in fact return to college to play one more year, the Browns would continue to have his contractual rights should they sign him. If they don’t sign him and he does go back to college he would re-enter the Draft next year.
