The Dallas Cowboys set a new standard in 2009 when they opened their stadium in Arlington, Texas. Originally called Cowboys Stadium, the home to America’s Team is now known as AT&T Stadium (and sometimes Jerry World and The Death Star). The dome stadium boasts art, shopping, a retractable roof, and several types of surfaces that allow for events far beyond just football.

The massive stadium became a trendsetter for sports and entertainment venues with its technology integration, including gigantic 4k HD screens and its unique design, cutting-edge fan experiences, and distinct features. Here are a few fun facts about the Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium.

Facts about AT&T Stadium

1. You can see it from space

The stadium was built not just to be used, but to be seen. The huge dome structure is visible from 5 minutes in outer space. It can also be seen from all airplanes leaving the DFW Airport and cars traveling the major roads surrounding it.

2. The 4K video board broke records

At the time the stadium opened, the 4K video board was the largest in the world and is the first center-hung HDTV video board. It is 160 feet by 72 feet and contains 30 million light bulbs and 25,000 square feet of video displays. Each of the two screens stretches from one 20-yard line to the other and weigh 1.2 million pounds.

3. The Statue of Liberty would fit inside the stadium

The entire 305-foot Statue of Liberty in New York City, including the torch, would fit inside of AT&T Stadium, with the roof closed.

4. It has a unique collection of art

Jerry Jones and his wife Gene are big fans of art, and made sure to share that love with anyone who enters AT&T Stadium. The stadium is home to an impressive collection of art, including paintings, sculptures, and installations. The art inside AT&T Stadium has been viewed more times than the art inside the Art Institute of Chicago.

5. Modern technology sets AT&T Stadium apart

Apart from the gigantic Jumbotron, the Cowboys’ stadium boasts high-speed WiFi and a distributed antenna system, allowing fans to stay connected and share their experiences online throughout the games and events.

6. The stadium hosts much more than just football games

The versatility of the stadium allows for it to host much more than just football games. The turf typically used for the Cowboys games has the ability to transform into several other surfaces. In addition to hosting Cowboys games, AT&T Stadium also hosts college football games, concerts, basketball and soccer games, boxing matches, and has even been host to weddings, movie premiers, and The National Bowling Championship.

7. The maximum attendance at the stadium wasn’t for a Cowboys game

The record attendance for a football game at AT&T Stadium was set the year it was opened, when the Cowboys played the Giants in September 2009 and 105,121 fans showed up. But that record was blown out of the water the following year when the stadium was host to the NBA All-Star Game, and a crowd of 108,713 were in attendance. That is also the record attendance for a basketball game still to this day.

8. Helicopter tours

In addition to regular stadium tours, AT&T Stadium offers a truly unique experience with aerial roof tours. Guests can get a look at the massive stadium from above with breathtaking views from the sky.
