Update:

The first week of the NFL preseason is over and now it’s time to start looking at Week 2 as we inch towards kickoff to the regular season. The rosters will be smaller. The games will be more important. Every snap will count. Starters will be trying to polish their game. Second team guys will try and secure a starting role on opening weekend. Third and fourth string guys will be looking to catch the eye of their coaches in hopes of making the squad after the final cut day.

Plenty of storylines entering preseason Week 2

As always the preseason headlines revolve around rookies, and that was no different this year. The top overall pick, Cam Ward’s debut was overshadowed by fellow rookie quarterback Shedeur Sanders who impressed in his first NFL action after dropping to the fifth round of the NFL Draft. We got to see Sanders’ teammate and Heisman trophy winner Travis Hunter play on both sides of the ball in his brief debut for Jacksonville.

There are a handful of first year coaches that we got to see as well. Travis Hunter wasn’t the only headline in Jacksonville. First year, Liam Coen got his first taste of being a head coach in the Jags preseason opener. Aaron Glenn made his debut with the New York Jets. Kellen Moore, Ben Johnson and Brian Schottenheimer all got their first taste of being an NFL coach last week. Now, like the players, it’s time to tweak, adjust and improve for next weekend.

There are plenty of things to look out for as the preseason goes on and Week 2 will give us a little more clarity. There are QB competitions to be won and lost. We have some stars that could see first action of the new season, including Aaron Rodgers with the Pittsburgh Steelers. There will be plenty to look out for this weekend, starting with the Titans and Falcons kicking things off on Friday.
