It’s become common practice for professional athletes to give to various causes and charities, however, it’s not so common to see when they themselves have been affected by the issue to which said organizations give. Such is the case with the Browns star.

David Njoku wants to help burn victims

If you caught the injury report for this weekend between the 49ers and the Browns, then you will know that David Njoku has been listed as questionable. What you might not know, is the fact that the reason for his uncertain status is that he suffered severe burns to his face and arms while lighting a fire pit late last month, something he later took to social media to share photos of. To that end, Njoku has now taken the decision to help other burn victims out there.

Beginning with the aforementioned photos, it’s also understood that Njoku is now selling shirts that feature a photo of him wearing a mask as he arrived for work just two days after the incident. Proceeds from sales will be given to the American Burns Association. “I’ve been getting a lot of messages from other burn victims and nurses that have burn victims, and they were telling me how everybody feels embarrassed to show whatever,” Njoku said. “So I wanted just to come out forth and show myself so everyone feels a little bit better about themselves. End of the day, things heal.”

David Njoku is a warrior

Though you would probably think not, Njoku actually played in Cleveland’s Week 4 game against the Tennessee Titans and what’s more, is that he caught two of three targets in a performance that saw him play 70% of the team’s snaps. Indeed, it was an effort that even his teammates couldn’t help but acknowledge. “There are a lot of players who definitely would not have played with that happening to them less than 48 hours before the game and for good reason,” Browns wideout Amari Cooper said about Njoku. “But I was actually surprised when he played as well. But it says a lot about his toughness.”
