Eagles - Jets: NFL Week 6 injury report: Evans, Carter, Echols

It’s an uphill battle, but the Jets can take the role of underdogs and make a statement on the field with a few key Eagles players out from the Sunday game.

The Jets’ historical record against the Eagles, standing at 0-12, sets the stage for a formidable challenge for rookie quarterback Zach Wilson. Can the Jets find a glimmer of hope for their Sunday matchup and potentially stun the world?

Philadelphia Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles will miss several vital players on defense for their game against the New York Jets this Sunday. Defensive tackle Jalen Carter, cornerback Darius Slay, safety Justin Evans, and wide receiver Quez Watkins have all been ruled out for Week 6.

During Wednesday’s practice, Carter sustained an ankle injury, and while coach Nick Sirianni stated that it might only keep him out of one game, it still means the Eagles will be without one of their best players. However, the team still has multiple options at the defensive tackle position, including Fletcher Cox, Jordan Davis, Milton Williams, Kentavius Street, and Moro Ojomo.

Slay’s status is also uncertain, but he is believed to miss no more than one game. In his absence, the Eagles may start Josh Jobe or Eli Ricks outside opposite James Bradberry, with Kelee Ringo and newly-signed Bradley Roby playing in the slot.

Watkins is dealing with another hamstring injury, though it’s unclear whether it’s related to the previous injury that caused him to miss two games. Olamide Zaccheaus has been performing well in the WR3 role, so Watkins’ playing time was already expected to decrease.

Evans suffered a neck injury in Week 3 that caused him to miss Week 4. He returned to play 100% of the defensive snaps in Week 5 but suffered a knee injury that landed him on injured reserve. He will miss at least four games, with his next possible game in Week 11. This means Sydney Brown and Terrell Edmunds will play at safety next to Reed Blankenship in Evans’ absence.

New York Jets

The Jets have not yet released their Friday practice report. However, only two players were absent based on the practice reports from Wednesday and Thursday. Due to hamstring issues, Cornerback Brandin Echols and Defensive Back Justin Hardee did not practice on both days.

Several players were on a limited workload due to injuries, including Nick Bawden (calf), Mekhi Becton (knee), D.J. Reed (concussion), Billy Turner (toe), and Micheal Clemons (ankle).
