COWBOYS

How did Jerry Jones compare himself to Patrick Mahomes? What did he say?

The Dallas Cowboys kicked off training camp on Thursday with a press conference featuring owner Jerry Jones, his son and Cowboys COO Stephen Jones, and head coach Mike McCarthy. With Jones’ paternity suit settled, he was free to say all his off-the-wall comments today instead of making us all wait until Saturday. A gift!

Jerry said what?

Jerry Jones has been known to make some oddball comments. Maybe nothing will top his “glory hole days” comments from 2012.

During Thursday’s press conference, Jones made more confusing comments. At one point, he told us that he’s not psychotic, when asked about Dak Prescott’s future. I think he meant psychic, but who can know for sure? He also went on a rant about ambiguity that didn’t seem to have any clear meaning - unironically.

Then came the inevitable questions about why the Cowboys have still not given Dak Prescott, CeeDee Lamb, and Micah Parsons contract extensions, despite Lamb holding out from practice. His bewildering explanation included a comparison to Chiefs quarterback and three-time Super Bowl winner Patrick Mahomes.

According to Jones, Mahomes is a read-option quarterback, which is exactly how Jones is when negotiating contracts for his top players. He’s just running the ball to the sideline before making a decision on what to do.

“We’re buying time,” Jones said. “We’re an option quarterback and we haven’t handed it off or pitched it. We’re trying to make our mind up what to do. Does that sound like [Patrick] Mahomes to you?”

Well, considering Mahomes won three Super Bowls in the last five years, and the Cowboys haven’t won one in 28 years...actually, no, it does not.
