Prior to announcing for the full schedule for the 2024 season, the NFL has revealed that it has agreed a deal with Netflix for the streaming platform to broadcast games on Christmas Day for the next three years.

Two matchups will be played on 25 December this year, both of which will be shown on Netflix. At least one game will follow in both 2025 and 2026, for which the schedule has obviously yet to be decided.

The NFL scheduled three games on Christmas Day last year, which proved to be an absolute hit with fans. According to Sports Media Watch, those three encounters averaged 28.68 million viewers.

Although it hasn’t happened every year, football has regularly taken place on 25 December, with watching the games considered a traditional holiday family activity by many Americans. The NFL has attracted some of its biggest regular-season audiences on the date, and this will be the fourth year in succession the NFL will be playing on Christmas Day.

Which NFL games will Netflix show in 2024?

The matches which will be broadcast have yet to be announced, although that will change once the full schedule is released later on Wednesday (at 8pm ET / 5pm PT).

Although Netflix and the NFL haven’t disclosed the financial terms of the deal, Bloomberg has reported that the streaming platform has paid less than $150 million per game.

How much does a Netflix subscription cost? Can everyone with a subscription watch NFL?

At present, Netflix subscriptions cost between $6.99 (standard account which allows two simultaneous streams) and $22.99 (premium account which allows four simultaneous streams and has better streaming quality) per month.

There is also the option to pay more to add extra members to either type of account, with the most expensive premium account, which has three members in total, costing $38.97 per month.

Neither Netflix nor the NFL has revealed whether the deal will affect the price of a subscription, which usually varies slightly from year to year and depending on what content is on offer.

They have also yet to comment on whether the games will be available to users with all types of accounts. However, that will be the case for the upcoming boxing match between Mike Tyson and Jake Paul, which suggests NFL may also be accessible to anyone who has an account with the platform.
