Is Bo Nix playing in the Broncos preseason finale vs. the Arizona Cardinals?
Sean Payton drafted Bo Nix to be his next Drew Brees. Things are going well in Denver, with Nix steadily improving in the preseason and looking ready.
The relationship between a playcaller and a quarterback is one of the most critical elements in football. The playcaller’s role is to devise strategies to open receivers, while the quarterback must execute by finding those open targets.
Sean Payton mastered this dynamic during his tenure with Drew Brees, creating a machine-like offense where Brees could find an open receiver on nearly every play. As the Denver Broncos’ new head coach, Payton is now looking to replicate that success with Bo Nix, the former Oregon quarterback who was drafted 12th overall and is poised to start immediately.
Despite Payton’s offensive genius, last season was a struggle due to quarterback Russell Wilson’s limitations. Enter Bo Nix, who was highly effective in Oregon’s schemed offense, where plays were designed to target one specific receiver. Nix’s ability to consistently hit that first read is both a strength and a potential weakness. On one hand, he can execute Payton’s game plan with precision. On the other, if Payton can’t scheme the first read open, it remains to be seen whether Nix can progress through his reads as Brees once did.
Will he play against the Cardinals?
Nix’s first preseason game was a mixed bag. He struggled to read defenses and manage his footwork. However, he showed marked improvement in his second game, demonstrating cleaner mechanics and better decision-making. Payton’s quarterbacks are expected to play with rhythm and precision, and Nix showed he can hit routes on time and make quick, accurate throws under pressure.
The Arizona Cardinals will not get to see Denver Broncos rookie quarterback Bo Nix, who was recently named the team’s starting quarterback. The Broncos head coach also confirmed to the reporters that Nix would be held out of the preseason finale this Sunday against the Arizona Cardinals in Denver.
So, Nix will sit out against Arizona, while Stidham will start and play for a few snaps. Wilson, the former No. 2 overall pick in the 2021 draft, will probably play the rest of the game.
