Is the Dolphins’ Tyreek Hill really going to retire in 2025?
The star WR definitely turned heads with his recent declaration. Assuming he holds firm, it’s now a matter of what he can achieve before he says goodbye to the game.
Arguably one of the most prolific wide receivers that we’ve seen in recent years, the Dolphins star is as good as it gets and then some. Now in his prime, the obvious question is why he is set on hanging up his boots in the near future?
Tyreek Hill plans to retire in 2025
Easily one of the most exciting players in the NFL, Tyreek Hill has shown us all that you could ask from a wide receiver and he’s looked very good while doing so. Fresh off of the best season of his career, it’s surprising to learn that the Dolphins wide out is already thinking about when he’s going to call it quits, and quite frankly it’s a lot sooner than any of us could have expected. Speaking earlier this week, Hill was asked how much longer he intends to play and his answer left many surprised.
“I’m going for 10,” Hill said. “I’m going to finish out this contract with the Dolphins and then I’m going to call it quits.” Considering that he’s still just 29-years-old and moreover one of the best we’ve seen in his position, that is indeed a very surprising answer. To be clear, this is Hill’s seventh season in the NFL meaning that if he holds true on his words, he will play just three more years in the league with the curtain coming down in 2025. Of course, there is no guarantee that this is in fact what will come to pass and if we’re honest, we certainly hope to be seeing Hill - one of the most edge-of-your-seat players in the league - playing for more than just three seasons, but we can only keep our fingers crossed. Where numbers are concerned, Hill caught 119 passes for 1,710 yards last season which was a career high for him, as well as second in the NFL.
Should we take Tyreek Hill at his word?
Truth be told, yes. While it’s true that Hill is young and still in his prime, a major factor is that he’s already talked about his plans for life after football. “So I really want to get into the gaming space,” Hill said.
“I really want to get huge in that and that’s kind of what I’m doing right now. I’m using my platform to create a gaming team, which isn’t launched yet. It should launch by the end of this month. I’m going to just sign different content creators, different athletes. I just been working that, talking to different sponsors.” Further to that, Hill also indicated that he might explore the “business side” of football and that he’s even considered coaching as an option. “I want to do so many things in my life,” he said.

Interestingly, Hill didn’t stop at his future, but rather spoke about his past as well, including his trade from the Kansas City Chiefs in 2022 and how it all went down. Following the Chiefs’ loss to the Bengals in the AFC championship game, he was contacted by his agent, Drew Rosenhaus, who inquired as to whether or not he wanted a new contract during the offseason. According to Hill, his response was “Let’s see what happens during the offseason and we’ll take it from there.” This is where Hill placed emphasis on Jaguars WR, Christian Kirk, who signed a four-year, $72 million deal with the team. Indeed, Hill seemingly took offense to the notion that Hill was offered a contract that was more lucrative than his. “Christian Kirk got a crazy deal,” Hill said. “He signed a deal and he surpassed me and...I’m not going to let Christian Kirk have a higher contract than me. I’m not. I’m just not.”
As we now know, what happened next was relatively straightforward. The Chiefs weren’t willing to meet Hill’s price which in turn led to the WR asking for a trade. The end result? a four year, $120 million extension with the Miami Dolphins. With that in mind, one can imagine that Hill is already relishing the prospect of playing against the Chiefs this coming season. With the game expected to be played in Kansas City, he’s already given thought to whether he will be displaying his famous peace sign. “I hate to say it, I hate to throw up the peace sign against y’all,” Hill said. “I hate to do it, but guess what? I’m gonna be y’all worst enemy that day.”
It’s not all beef for Tyreek Hill when it comes to the Chiefs
Though it’s obvious that he will be doing his best to help his team beat the Chiefs, Hill admitted that he still has a soft spot for his former team. To that point, he even disclosed that he watched the Chiefs’ Super Bowl win from Japan where he found himself cheering on his former teammates.
“I was in Tokyo watching the Super Bowl, so I was watching and I was just happy for my guys,” Hill said. “Even though I wasn’t a part of it, I still feel like I’m a part of it. Watching [Mahomes] and Kelce win. Watching [Andy Reid] get another Super Bowl ring adding to his amazing head coaching career... it felt good to watch the boys win.”
