Week 16 Thursday Night Football brings you a game where both teams are desperate for a win as the Jacksonville Jaguars head to New York to face the Jets.

The Jets are sitting at dead even 7-7, a long way off their blazing start to the season. Losing five of their last seven games, they desperately need to apply the brakes to their skid, before they find it all too late to save their playoff hopes.

The Jaguars are just a game under .500 at 6-8, but their trajectory is headed the other direction, having won four of their last six games. They now sit only one game out of first in the AFC South and need this win to push them to within touching distance of the Titans.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs New York Jets: how they stack up

Jacksonville Jaguars

Jacksonville has had their offense firing on all cylinders lately and are a completely balanced unit. Trevor Lawrence has finally found his groove in the NFL and has been faultless, throwing for nearly 1700 yards and 14 touchdowns in the last six games, giving him the highest passer rating in the league over that span.

On the ground, Travis Etienne has been just as productive, with 1155 total yards, averaging 5.0 yards per carry.

New York Jets

The head to head series tends to favor the Jets and they head into this game leaning heavily on their defense which is in the top five in the NFL against the pass. They have a potential Rookie of the Year in cornerback Sauce Gardner and are able to run with any receiver in the league.

On offense, they are beginning to get some decent production out of rookie Zonovan Knight and Michael Carter, and they will need to continue this if they want to produce wins.

Jacksonville Jaguars vs New York Jets: our prediction

Both of these teams are fairly evenly matched, but the momentum has been flowing all one way lately. With the Jags on a winning streak and the Jets struggling to find a win, it would seem to be a setup for a blowout. But with rain forecast and the Jets at home, the scales could tip back to their favor, with most giving the Jets a 1.5 point advantage over the Jags.

The key to the game is likely to be the running game and short passes, where although the balance is more evenly distributed, the Jags should still hold the higher ground. We look for Jacksonville to pull ahead late in the second half and add some late cushion to their victory.

Prediction: Jacksonville Jaguars 24-18 New York Jets
