Jerry Jones back on radio show after threatening to fire hosts, does not apologize

Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones has a tradition on Tuesday mornings of joining the Cowboys syndicate radio station, 105.3 The Fan for an interview. Last week, that interview ended with tension as the hosts asked Jones about his part in the Cowboys' 3-3 start to the season and Jones got so defensive that he threatened to fire the hosts.

Jerry stuck to his guns when asked about his outburst, saying “if I’m going to be grilled by the tribunal, I don’t need it to be by the guys I’m paying”. An interesting comment considering Jones does not actually pay them...and cannot actually fire them.

Jones returns to The Fan after last week’s outburst

Jones' outburst came after a 47-9 loss to the Detroit Lions left fans everywhere questioning his decisions and lack of moves in the offseason. All the radio hosts did was ask him the same questions publicly and directly.

The hosts themselves spoke about the conversation the next day, expressing their surprise over Jerry’s reaction.

“It’s really insulting, really demeaning, really insulting and again, out of nowhere,” said host Shan Shariff. “We have done 14 years of interviews with this man.”

“I didn’t get upset with it, but it was like, ‘You know what? Screw you man,’” added fellow host RJ Choppy.

Fast forward one week and Jerry is back on the show again. During the Cowboys' bye week, Jones' outburst led to widespread criticism from fans and the media. But today, it appears that there’s no bad blood remaining between he and the hosts.

What did Jerry say when asked about radio show controversy?

Of course, the elephant in the room was addressed. And of course, Jerry neither apologized nor acknowledged his reaction as negative or wrong.

“I don’t have anything to say about last week,” he said. “I’m surprised that last week got the attention it got.”

After saying he had nothing to say, Jones went on to say a lot of things, relating the conversations he has with these radio hosts to conversations he’d have with his wife, Gene.

“It’s kind of like pillow talk,” Jones said. “You get some inside stuff.”

“I will you tell you [it‘s] the same kind of question that my wife might ask me, of 60-something years. ‘Why did you do that?’ I don’t know. The devil made me do it.”

“The point is, those kind of questions are pointedly toward putting you on a spot to make a certain kind of answer ... I’ve been asked that Derrick Henry question every day since training camp. That’s a get-in-your-ass type of question.”

Jones is obviously referring here to Baltimore Ravens running back Derrick Henry, whom he claimed the Cowboys could not afford, and who’s since had a stellar season with the Ravens and leads the league in rushing yards. His successful season includes an embarrassing game against the Cowboys in which he ran all over their defense for 151 yards and two rushing touchdowns while the RB Jones chose instead, Ezekiel Elliott, put up a measly six yards. Yes, SIX.

Henry was reportedly interested in the Cowboys this offseason and the Cowboys were in need of a running back after letting Tony Pollard walk. But Jones defended his decision then and he defends it now, spitting the same “salary cap” excuse he’s used to deny the Cowboys of any talented free agent for years now.

Blablabla, yeah yeah yeah.

Now that Jones is seemingly back to normal with The Fan hosts, stating that he‘s “tickled to death” about the interest in his team, he got a free pass from difficult questions this week considering the Cowboys were on a bye (not that this means there is nothing to criticize).
