Update:

The Green Bay Packers have been forced to make some alterations to their preseason plans after quarterback Jordan Love picked up an injury in Saturday night’s 30-10 defeat to the Jets - the team’s first game of the preseason.

Love injured the thumb on his left hand in the final snap of the game as he was looking to make a throw before crossing the line of scrimmage. He then was sacked for a 3-yard loss.

Jordan Love undergoes surgery

It transpired that the Love suffered damage to the ligament in his left hand. General Manager Brian Gutekunst confirmed that the QB underwent surgery Tuesday morning and emphasized that Love is expected to return to practice next week.

As he gets back next week, we’ll kind of assess where he’s at,” Gutekunst explained. “It’s one of those things where he’ll be back at practice next week … we’ll kind of see and it’ll be day to day a little bit. More importantly, he’ll be ready for Week 1 and that’s the most important thing.”

Love top miss the remainder of the Packers’ preseason

As the injury affects Love’s non-throwing hand, Love will be able to return to practice although he will definitely miss Saturday’s preseason matchup with the Indianapolis Colts and probably the following game against the Seahawks on 23 August.

Gutekunst is confident Love will be ready for the regular-season opener against the Detroit Lions at Lambeau Field on Sunday, September 7 (4:25 PM EST).
