Update:

As the 2025 NFL regular season reaches its dramatic conclusion, the Buffalo Bills received encouraging news on Friday that could shape their approach to Sunday’s game against the New York Jets.

Quarterback Josh Allen, hit with a foot issue that limited his practice participation earlier in the week, has been declared “good to go” by head coach Sean McDermott and is expected to start in the regular-season finale.

We wanted to make sure his health was No. 1 the last two days,” McDermott said. “He had two good days of recovery and today he’ll be out there. He’ll be limited. He’ll be good to go for the game, and we’ll take it one day at a time.”

The announcement ends a period of uncertainty surrounding Allen’s status after he aggravated a foot injury late in the Week 17 loss to the Philadelphia Eagles. Initial reports had suggested the Bills might rest their star ahead of the postseason, but things have since changed for the better.

But Allen returned to practice on Friday in a limited fashion, giving the coaching staff confidence that he can take the field at Highmark Stadium on Sunday.

However, despite the optimism, there remains some ambiguity about how much Allen will actually play. With the Bills holding multiple options for playoff seeding, McDermott and the coaching staff are expected to carefully manage his workload. According to ESPN, Allen could see only a handful of minutes before ceding the game to backup Mitchell Trubisky, similar to how the team handled his game time in last season’s finale to preserve his fitness.

“I just really want to get through today and see how it looks,” McDermott explained. “We’ve got some guys that are a little bit sore coming off of last week’s game and certainly know what’s removed a week from this weekend here. So, again, want to play well, that’s important to us. Prioritising being smart as well through it all, so that balance is what we’re trying to strike there.”
