Julius Wood and Eric Scott Jr. missing from Cowboys practice squad
After the Cowboys cut their rosters down to 53, they added several back to the practice squad, but a few notable players were snatched up by other teams.
The Dallas Cowboys had to make some tough decisions when they cut their roster down to 53 players on Tuesday. Thankfully, at least 16 players can be brought back to the practice squad...that is, if they’re not snatched up by other teams before then. Players with four years or fewer in the NFL are exposed to the waiver wire once they’re cut.
The Cowboys were robbed of two defensive backfield players that they’d cut loose, one of whom they likely would have chosen to bring back to the practice squad had he not been picked up by another team.
Julius Wood and Eric Scott Jr. off to other NFL teams
Among the roster cuts the Cowboys made on Tuesday were safety Julius Wood and cornerback Eric Scott Jr.
In Dallas’ three preseason games, Wood made nine tackles and two interceptions. Behind Malik Hooker, Donovan Wilson, Markquese Bell, Juanyeh Thomas, and Israel Mukuamu, however, the Cowboys just simply didn’t have the space. Unfortunately for Dallas, Wood was picked up by the Tennessee Titans before they had a chance to sign him to the practice squad.
Eric Scott Jr. was Dallas’ sixth-round draft pick last year, but he never played in a regular season game. He did have a decent preseason, but he wasn’t likely to be signed to the practice squad. The Kansas City Chiefs, who also traded a 2026 late-round draft pick to the Cowboys for tight end Peyton Hendershot, claimed Scott off the waiver wire.
