Kansas City Chiefs’ 2022 NFL schedule one of the toughest
Two-time Super Bowl winners the Kansas City Chiefs will have to negotiate one of the most challenging 2022 NFL regular season schedules.
The Kansas City Chiefs have reached four consecutive AFC Championship Games, and in 2022 are out to take one step closer to the New England Patriots’ record of eight. However, the Chiefs’ run towards the Playoffs is one of the toughest in the NFL.
During the 2022 regular season, the Chiefs will come up against teams boasting quarterbacks of the calibre of Matthew Stafford, Joe Burrow, Tom Brady, Josh Allen, Kyler Murray and Matt Ryan.
Mahomes’ Chiefs face arduous start to 2022 regular season
The first of those clashes will place in Week 1, when Kansas City visit Murray’s Arizona Cardinals. Two games later, QB Patrick Mahomes will go head to head with Ryan and the Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium, before in Week 4 the Chiefs travel to Tampa Bay to take on Brady’s Buccaneers. Kansas City’s gruelling start to the regular season continues in Week 6 with a road game against Allen’s Buffalo Bills.
In Weeks 12 and 13, the Chiefs then have consecutive games against the two Super Bowl LVI quarterbacks, Stafford and Burrow. Defending champions the Los Angeles Rams visit Arrowhead Stadium, before the Cincinnati Bengals host Kansas City seven days later.
What’s more, the Chiefs also have six divisional matchups against Justin Herbert’s Los Angeles Chargers, Derek Carr’s Las Vegas Raiders and Russell Wilson’s Denver Broncos. Herbert will be Mahomes’ first opponent, in a Week 2 game in Kansas City, before the teams face each other again in Week 11. The Chiefs will clash with the Raiders in Weeks 5 and 18, and with the Broncos in Weeks 14 and 17.
Kansas City’s bye week will be in Week 8, and their other opponents in the regular season will be: the San Francisco 49ers (Week 7), the Tennessee Titans (Week 9), the Jacksonville Jaguars (Week 10), the Houston Texans (Week 15), and the Seattle Seahawks (Week 16).
Only four NFL teams have tougher 2022 schedule
For the Chiefs, who will have at least five prime-time games, the 2022 regular season schedule is the joint-fifth-toughest in the league, alongside the 49ers. Both teams’ opponents have a combined 2021 record of 154-135, and a combined 2021 win percentage of .533. The four franchises with a harder schedule, according to their opponents’ win percentage, are: the Rams (.567), the Cardinals (.543), the Bengals (.536), and the Buccaneers (.535).
