Kansas City Chiefs cancel training: What we know about BJ Thompson’s condition after cardiac arrest?

Following a medical emergency on Thursday, the Kansas City Chiefs were forced to postpone training. There is, however, good news to be shared.

Update:
BJ Thompson está estable tras ataque cardiaco

The Kansas City Chiefs have had quite a lot to deal with this offseason, but it would be safe to say that the inexcusable actions of head coach Andy Reid’s son, Britt Reid, the legal issues of Rashee Rice, or Harrison Butker’s provocative speech all pale in comparison to the life and death situation that was faced by one of their defensive linemen on Thursday.

BJ Thompson suffers cardiac arrest

According to reports, the Kansas City Chiefs had to suddenly cancel their training session on Thursday after a player - defensive lineman BJ Thompson - went into cardiac arrest after suffering a seizure on the field during a special teams meeting. Thompson was promptly taken to hospital by ambulance following the incident. It is understood that the Chiefs’ medical staff was immediate in their response to Thompson and that moreover, he is now reportedly in stable condition at the hospital.

While the Chiefs have offered little in the way of details, Thompson’s agent Chris Turnage did offer some positive news to the NFL Network’s Tom Pelissero on Thursday night. “BJ is still unconscious at this point, but he’s stable and his vitals are good. “His family asks for your continued prayers.” Regarding what happens from here, reports indicate that due to the situation, all team activities on Thursday were canceled including a media session that will now be held on Friday.

For his part, Thompson was selected out of Stephen F. Austin State University in the fifth round of the 2023 NFL Draft. He made just one appearance in his rookie season. It is expected that the Chiefs will resume their regular training regime from next week when they begin their mandatory minicamp, which is set to run from June 11th to 13th. Following the conclusion of the minicamp, the team will have a bit of a break until the start of training camp in late July. At this point, we can only hope for Thompson’s speedy recovery.
