Uruguay’s Maximiliano Araujo was substituted midway through the first half of the Copa América clash with USMNT after sustaining a head injury.

The wideman collided with US defender Tim Ream in the box and immediately went down holding his head. He was attended to by medical staff on the field and a stretcher was soon brought on.

Within minutes Araujo had been lifted onto the stretcher and carried off, suggesting that the injury was not considered particularly dangerous. However the full extent of his injuries has not yet been confirmed.

The replays subsequently suggest that it wasn’t actually the contact with Ream that caused the injury, but rather the impact when he hit the ground. Araujo’s head whipped back in a jarring motion and it seems to be that which has caused him the pain.
