The Kansas City Chiefs have had problems at the wide receiver position throughout the 2023 NFL season and now the situation has worsened ahead of the Week 12 matchup against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The AFC West team announced that Kadarius Toney was ruled out against the division rival due to ankle and hip injuries. In addition, the Chiefs will be without Mecole Hardman for at least four weeks due to a thumb injury that sent him to injured reserve.

To alleviate their losses, the Chiefs elevated running back La’Mical Perine and wide receiver Montrell Washington from the practice squad to face Las Vegas on Sunday. Perine saw action in the game against the Miami Dolphins in Frankfurt, Germany, and Washington has worked as a kick returner for the Chiefs for four games.

After the losses of Toney and Hardman, the Chiefs’ depth chart at the wide receiver position to face the Raiders is made up of Justin Watson, Rashee Rice, Marquez Valdes-Scantling, Richie James, Skyy Moore and Montrell Washington.

The Chiefs and dropped passes are synonymous in 2023

Patrick Mahomes has struggled with his group of receivers during the 2023 season. According to Football Reference, the Chiefs lead the entire NFL in dropped passes with 28 in the first ten games of the season.

Of this total, the player who has dropped the most passes is rookie Rashee Rice with five, followed by tight end Travis Kelce with four. Kadarius Toney, Jerick McKinnon and Justin Watson have each dropped three of Mahomes’ pitches.
