The Washington Commanders had their best season in several years, making it all the way to the NFC title game before being eliminated by the Philadelphia Eagles. This year, they had a new head coach in Dan Quinn, a new quarterback in rookie Jayden Daniels, and a new offensive coordinator in Kliff Kingsbury.

Kingsbury in Washington to stay

That same lineup will be in tow for the 2025-26 season as Kliff Kingsbury announced that he will stay in Washington for at least another year.

During the playoffs, Kingsbury declined to interview with other teams, despite interest for several head coaching positions. He wanted to focus on the Commanders and taking them as far as he could. After they lost the NFC Conference Championship to the Eagles, the New Orleans Saints were the only team left with an open vacancy. They requested an interview with Kingsbury, but he withdrew his name from consideration and decided to stay with the Commanders.

In the 2023 season, the Commanders won just four games. Under Quinn and Kingsbury, they won 12 games and went to their first Conference Championship in 19 years. Washington’s offense was tied for their second-most total points in a season (485) and were among the top three in rushing and total yards in team history this season.

Before he joined the Commanders as the offensive coordinator, Kingsbury was the head coach of the Arizona Cardinals from 2019-22. He’ll stay at least one more season in Washington coaching Jayden Daniels and looking to get the Commanders all the way to the Super Bowl next year before he’s inevitably in the hunt for a head coach position again.
