Lamar Jackson injury news ends incredible 100% record
The Baltimore Ravens will be without the two-time NFL MVP this weekend and it’s been a long time since his last absence.
The Baltimore Ravens have confirmed the unthinkable: Lamar Jackson is out for this weekend’s game against the Houston Texans due to a hamstring injury.
Jackson will therefore miss his first game due to injury since the January 2023 meeting with the Cincinnati Bengals. His reliability has been incredible for the past two years but the Ravens will now need to find a way to deal with his absence.
In his place, Cooper Rush will make his first start for the Ravens. Since 2018, Baltimore are 4-10 without Jackson, averaging just 16.6 points per game. However the backup made an effort to sound up-beat ahead of the Texans matchup on Sunday.
“I’ve kind of been here before,” Rush said. “Whenever a franchise QB goes down, it’s always a ‘sky is falling’ feeling everywhere you are. It’s normal, and if you have to go out there on Sunday and do what you have to do, it’s nice knowing you had a whole week to prep for it. So things like that are good.”
Jackson’s career with the Baltimore Ravens has been nothing short of electrifying. Since taking over as the starter midway through his 2018 rookie season, Jackson has been one of the most effective and most consistent QBs in the NFL. His blend of speed, vision and arm strength makes him an elite playmaker, putting together stellar seasons in Baltimore.
In 2019 he led the league with 36 passing touchdowns, rushed for over 1,200 yards and became the youngest quarterback ever to win the MVP award unanimously.
He picked up his first playoff victory in 2020 but has not managed to replicate his incredible regular season form in the postseason. Now 28 years old, Jackson is yet to play in a Super Bowl and his out-sized talent demands that he makes it to the biggest stage.
Now entering his prime, Jackson is more than just a highlight machine. He’s the face of the franchise, a two-time MVP and one of the most feared quarterbacks in the entire league. The Ravens will hope that his absence is a brief one.
