Legendary QB Drew Brees makes shock Eagles claim
The Super Bowl champion is unbeaten to start the 2025 season but former New Orleans Saints star Brees has not been impressed by their form.
The Philadelphia Eagles cruised to victory at Super Bowl LIX earlier this year, putting the reigning champion Kansas City Chiefs to the sword. The Eagles have gone 4-0 to start the 2025 season but not everyone is impressed.
Former New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees has taken aim at the Eagles this week, making a bold claim about the champion: “I know Philly’s undefeated, but barely. Barely! If CeeDee catches a post in Week 1, and if the Rams make a chip-shot field goal, they’re sitting at 2-2. They are not the best team in the NFL.”
Is Brees’ criticism fair? The Eagles’ 4–0 record means that they sit atop the NFC East and they’ve shown that they can get it done at the end of games, notably in a 31-25 road win over Tampa Bay.
But not everything has been smooth. Their offense ranks near the bottom in passing yardage and the running game has fallen from historic production levels in 2024. Saquon Barkley has been limited, averaging just 3.1 yards per carry so far to follow up his MVP-caliber season.
Still, the Eagles’ overall resolve is impressive. Young stars like Quinyon Mitchell and Cooper DeJean have shown flashes and head coach Nick Sirianni insists this early stretch mirrors last season’s rough start.
If Philly can clean up their play in October, build greater consistency and tighten the pass rush, they will once again be a real contender as they battle to defend their crown.
