The NFL sounded the alarm over a serious neck injury and suspended the Detroit Lions’ game against the Atlanta Falcons at Mercedes-Benz Stadium, with the visitors leading 17-10. Lions safety Morice Norris had to be taken to a hospital after suffering a seizure following a tackle on running back Nate Carter.

The defender tried to bring down Carter, but the runner’s thigh struck Norris in the head, leaving him motionless on the field. Some players from both teams gathered at midfield to pray for the Lions safety. The Fresno State graduate had recorded three tackles.

Play was stopped with 14:50 left in the fourth quarter after Norris’s injury, but the clock continued to run until 6:30 remained. At that point, referee Shawn Hochuli announced the game’s suspension.

Who is Morice Norris?

Norris is a safety who signed a three-year deal with the Detroit Lions in 2024 after going undrafted that year. The 24-year-old spent last season on the NFC North team’s practice squad and appeared in two games, mainly on special teams.

The Detroit Lions shared an update on X stating that, “Morice Norris is in stable condition and has feeling and movement in all his extremities. He will remain at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta overnight for observation.

“We would like to thank the Atlanta Falcons organization, the EMS team at Mercedes-Benz Stadium and the doctors and staff at Grady for their support.”

This season was his chance to make a name for himself in the Lions’ defense. The Fresno State alumnus was listed as the backup strong safety behind Brian Branch.
