Game time!!
The Lions won the toss and elected to defer. Packers start us off on offense. Let's go!
The defensive star raves about Green Bay’s locker room culture, hinting at what he didn’t find in Dallas.
How will Goff gel with new playcaller?
Lions QB Jared Goff, the No. 1 pick in the 2016 draft, enters his fifth year as Detroit’s starting quarterback. After a rough first season, he’s settled in as one of the league’s most efficient passers, averaging 7.9 yards per attempt with 96 touchdowns, and just 31 interceptions since 2022.
The Lions have gone 36-15 in his last 51 regular-season starts. While not known for mobility, Goff thrives on accuracy, timing, and distributing the ball in Detroit’s high-powered offense. The big storyline for 2025: how he adapts to new playcaller John Morton, replacing Ben Johnson, who took the Bears’ OC job.
Lions-Packers INACTIVES
Packers
Several of the players on the Packers' final injury report will suit up against the Lions, including DE Micah Parsons, who will make his debut for Green Bay, WRs Jayden Reed, Dontayvion Wicks, and rookie Savion Williams.
INACTIVES:
CB Nate Hobbs
S Zayne Anderson
OL Donovan Jennings
TE Ben Sims
DL Warren Brinson
DL Barryn Sorrell
Lions
The Lions have two injured players on their inactive list today - RB Sione Vaki (hamstring) and LB Trevor Nowaske (elbow). Detroit signed RB Jacob Saylors to the active roster and elevated LB Anthony Pittman from the practice squad.
INACTIVES:
S Thomas Harper
RB Sione Vaki
LB Trevor Nowaske
DL Chris Smith
DL Medhi Wingo
Edge Tyrus Wheat
Hutchinson back in the game
Speaking of edge rushers, the Lions have a weapon of their own.
Aidan Hutchinson missed the majority of the season last year after he broke his leg in Week 6. He had already notched 7.5 sacks and 47 pressures in just five games up to that point.
Without him, the Lions struggled to establish a consistent pass rush, but he's back for the 2025 season and looks set to have another monster season, starting today.
Gorgeous day in Green Bay!
The Parsons effect
Just over a week ago, the Packers traded with the Dallas Cowboys to acquire edge rusher Micah Parsons, one of the most dangerous defenders in the NFL. Offenses literally build their plans around this man - that's how impactful he is.
So Jared Goff and the Lions are going to have their work cut out for them today. Parsons has averaged 13 sacks a season over his four years in the league. He's listed as questionable due to a back issue, but is expected to play.
A quick look back at last season...
Packers
The Packers finished the 2024 season 11-6. They clinched a Wild Card spot in the playoffs after a shutout (34-0) win over the New Orleans Saints. However, they finished third in the NFC North, with just win over the Chicago Bears within the division. They didn't make it past the first round of the playoffs, losing 22-10 to the eventual Super Bowl champions Philadelphia Eagles.
Lions
The Lions had a fantastic 2024 season, finishing 15-2, first in the North (with a sweep, no less), and first overall in the conference (for the first time in franchise history), and were undefeated on the road. Unfortunately, they lost the Divisional Round of the playoffs to the Washington Commanders after dealing with several injuries on the defense.
