Mahomes gives Chiefs near-impossible task to save the season
The Kansas City Chiefs QB has said that the team cannot afford to slip up again this season.

Easy, lads, just wrap your hand around the handle and pull. The sword should come right out of the stone.
Coming out of a painfully narrow 31–28 defeat to Dallas Cowboys on Thanksgiving, the Chiefs are no longer in control of their destiny. The season is in tatters and they are on the road to nowhere.
After talk of a ‘dynasty’ last season quickly swirled and gathered pace, it seems that the gusts have blown them over and they find themselves at sea, trying now to just keep their head above water.
Patrick Mahomes would have, in an alternative universe, been steering the ship into clear waters, but even he is struggling with the setbacks. The QB admitted after the game that he is relying on Father Fortune and Lady Luck to get through the mire. “You’ve got to win every game now -- and hope that’s enough,” he said.
If you don’t make the playoffs with Pat Mahomes in his prime, someone needs fired.

“If we’re going to make the playoffs, we’re going to have to win them all”
That reality check came hard. Their postseason probability dropped from 63% to 47% and all remaining games are against AFC teams, meaning the margin for error is razor thin. “We’re going to play a lot of good teams coming up,” Mahomes admitted, downtrodden, eyeballing his shoes. “If we’re going to make the playoffs, we’re going to have to win them all. That’s got to be the mindset when we step into the [training facility] when we get back.”
“We can beat anybody, but we’ve shown that we can lose to anybody,” he said, lamenting the fragility of the team that had become so reliable. “We’ve got to be more consistent. We’ve had big plays and we’ve had runs where we can really score at any time, but we’ve got to be consistent for four quarters, especially when you play good teams and they have a good offence.”
Given the roster, the problem is not a lack of firepower. In the game against Dallas alone, Mahomes threw four touchdown passes and frequently scrambled out of trouble, but it wasn’t enough. According to ESPN research, this marked the first time in Mahomes’ career as a starter that Kansas City lost a game in which he threw at least four touchdowns with zero interceptions.
On Thanksgiving night, the offensive line was battered by injuries: both starting tackles, Jawaan Taylor and rookie Josh Simmons, were unable to finish. Meanwhile, the team also began without Trey Smith. “Hopefully we can get some of these guys back and get them healthy over this extended week that we have,” Mahomes said of the upcoming rest.

Head coach Andy Reid, the man who moulded the winning machine, said: “The bottom line is we’re having too many penalties, and we’ve got to make sure we take care of that. No excuses with it. We’ll work on cleaning it up. The guys know. They understand we’ve got to clean up a few things. We’ve got to do better as coaches. We’ve got to do better as players. You go back to the drawing board and you keep working.”
