SUPER BOWL LVIII
Mahomes vs Brady: who is the player with the most trophies at the same age?
Is Patrick Mahomes the next Tom Brady? If you compare their stats at this point in both of their careers, they are incredibly similar.
Patrick Mahomes has now won his third Super Bowl at the young age of 28, something only one other quarterback has accomplished in the history of the NFL. Yeah, you already know who it is. Tom Brady’s success is actually strangely similar to that of the Kansas City Chiefs quarterback, so it’s quite hard not to compare.
Mahomes has been in the league for seven years now and has made six straight AFC Championship Game appearances, gone to four Super Bowls, and won three. Brady was in the league for 20 years and won seven Super Bowls. He retired at the age of 45, but here’s how his career looked when he was Mahomes’ age.
Brady vs Mahomes at age 28
Brady made his start in the league in 2001, and led the New England Patriots to a Championship that same year. The Pats missed the playoffs in the following season, but then won two back-to-back Super Bowls the next two years. Sounding familiar yet? By the time he turned 28 years old, Tom Brady was 10-1 in the playoffs and had won three Super Bowls.
With the Chiefs’ Super Bowl victory over the San Francisco 49ers on Sunday, Mahomes now has his third ring, tying Brady’s number, and with a 14-3 record in the postseason.
Some might even argue that Mahomes will surpass Brady as the greatest of all time. Though their stats and numbers are quite similar, they play quite differently and the game itself is quite different. As Mahomes said after the win on Sunday, “it’s the start of a dynasty, but it’s not done.” He was referring to the Chiefs, but he himself is the backbone of that dynasty.
