As confirmed by head coach Sean McDermott, the Buffalo Bills’ news couldn’t be worse. Linebacker Matt Milano sustained a torn bicep injury during training earlier this week and will undergo surgery.

“Matt’s a strong, young man. I know he’s gonna handle this. It’s certainly tough, especially coming off the year he came off of already. The good thing is he’s got a good family behind him that’s gonna support him, teammates that are gonna support him, as well as the coaching staff and our entire football organization,” addressed McDermott during the press conference.

The Buffalo Bills selected Milano in the fifth round of the NFL’s 2017 draft. He has played eight seasons with the club and has started in 74 of the 90 matches he has played with the Bills. When talking about stats, the linebacker has a total of 488 tackles, 10.5 sacks, and 39 passes defended. His most important season was in 2022, during which he earned a spot on the first team of the All-Pro. What’s more, he even signed a two-year contract extension with the Bills in March 2023.

How long will Matt Milano be ruled out due to injury?

Unfortunately for Milano, injuries haven’t treated him well. Torn bicep injuries can take 3 to 4 months to heal, so we could hypothetically see the player return in December. However, as Sean McDermott also confirmed, it is still too early to determine when the player will be able to return to the playing field, so he will be out indefinitely.

This was not the only serious injury Milano suffered during his professional career. In Week 5 of the 2023 season, the linebacker fractured his leg against the Jacksonville Jaguars in London and missed the remainder of the season. The team also has young second-year LB Dorian Williams to fill the place left by Matt. McDermott trusts Williams, who made two starts in 14 appearances and 40 tackles.

“Dorian is going to do a good job; he’s been making progress. And now it’s not only his time to step up, but all the teammates around him to step up. It’s not just one person’s job to fill the void or try to fill the void left by Matt” stated the Bill’s head coach.
