Los Angeles head coach Sean McVay told reporters Wednesday that Matthew Stafford is expected to clear concussion protocol by Friday.

The quarterback who missed the Rams’ Week 10 loss to the Arizona Cardinals after he was placed in the protocol, was a full participant in the team’s practice on Wednesday, according to McVay. Backup quarterback John Wolford replaced Stafford, while visibly struggling on the field as he threw his only touchdown pass in the final seconds of a game with an obvious winner.

Stafford is also expected to play in Sunday’s matchup against the New Orleans Saints.

“If he is fully cleared, and he and his family feel good about that, then I know he’s chomping at the bit to be out there with his guys,” McVay said of Stafford.

The Rams continue to struggle

Stafford, as well as the Rams, has had an unkind start of the season so far, throwing as many interceptions as touchdowns (8-8). That’s a rough one for a quarterback who finished with a 41-17 TD-INT ratio last season.

Los Angeles is having their worst start (3-6) through nine games by a reigning Super Bowl champion, and it doesn’t seem to be getting any better. Losing Cooper Kupp to an ankle injury isn’t helping the L.A. team either. But having Stafford back should at least boost the team’s hopes to take on a New Orleans’ team that’s just as vulnerable this season.
