Update:

Matthew Stafford has made his decision regarding his future. The 37-year-old quarterback has chosen to continue playing with the Los Angeles Rams, according to a report by Diana Russini of The Athletic.

Despite having the option to terminate his contract early following the 2024 NFL season, Stafford has opted to stay. The NFC West team confirmed his return through their social media channels, announcing that he will continue under a restructured contract.

Stafford‘s salary the only obstacle in new deal

The only obstacle to extending Stafford’s contract was his salary. The QB was originally in line to earn a base salary of $23 million in 2025. However, the University of Georgia alum is reportedly seeking a significant raise after assessing his market value.

Last season, Stafford demonstrated his capabilities, completing 65.8% of his passes for 3,762 yards. He threw 20 touchdowns while being intercepted just eight times. These numbers highlight his continued reliability as a playmaker for the Rams.

A champion with the Rams at Super Bowl LVI, Stafford sparked interest from several franchises across the league. Among the most eager to secure his talents were the Las Vegas Raiders and the New York Giants. Additionally, the Cleveland Browns and the Pittsburgh Steelers reportedly explored trade options for the veteran quarterback, according to multiple sources.

Matthew Stafford’s stats with the Rams

Stafford joined the Los Angeles Rams in March 2021, following a blockbuster trade with the Detroit Lions. In exchange for the veteran quarterback, the Lions received two first-round draft picks (2022 and 2023), a third-round pick (2021), and quarterback Jared Goff.

Born in Tampa, Florida, Stafford has played four seasons with the Rams, appearing in 57 games - all of them as the starting QB. During his time in LA, he has amassed an impressive 14,700 passing yards, 95 touchdowns and 44 interceptions.

Stafford’s impact was immediate, as he led the Rams to Super Bowl LVI victory in his debut season with the team. Along the way, they triumphed over formidable opponents, including the Arizona Cardinals, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, San Francisco 49ers, and ultimately, the Cincinnati Bengals, securing the coveted Vince Lombardi Trophy.
