Micah Parsons update: Stephen Jones speaks on practice absence
If you were hoping Jerry Jones and Parsons’ collective absence from training camp today meant a contract was finally in the works, I’m sorry to disappoint.
The saga continues. But come on, you didn’t really think the contract drama between Jerry Jones and Micah Parsons would be resolved that fast, did you? There are egos at stake!
Parsons’ practice absence adds fuel to contract drama
Dallas Cowboys star Micah Parsons was at the team facility Thursday but did not participate in practice, sparking fresh speculation about his contract standoff. Because owner Jerry Jones was also notably missing, rumors began that perhaps the two were finalizing a deal once and for all.
But executive vice president Stephen Jones confirmed that was not the case. ESPN’s Todd Archer reported that Parsons missed practice because he was experiencing back tightness and was receiving treatment.
Parsons requested a trade on August 1 after extension talks stalled, reportedly because Jones tried negotiating without his agent. Despite his request, Dallas insists they won’t trade him - a move that would require massive draft capital and a record-setting contract for a non-quarterback.
Parsons has practiced in limited fashion since the request, but his full absence on Thursday adds another layer of uncertainty to the ongoing saga.
