Mike McCarthy rejects blame for the Dallas Cowboys’ disappointment
Head coach Mike McCarthy rejects any notion that he is the reason for the Dallas Cowboys’ nearly 30-year run of post season disappointment.
Mike McCarthy will continue as head coach of the Dallas Cowboys, at least for next season, says owner Jerry Jones. This comes amid speculation over the possible departure of McCarthy and rumors of Cowboys interest in Bill Belichick.
In four years as the team’s coach, McCarthy has 42 wins in the regular season with 25 losses, but is only 1-3 in the playoffs.
He has also maintained consistency by finishing three consecutive seasons with a 12-5 record.
The Cowboys’ ignominious elimination in the Wild Card at the hands of the Green Bay Packers continues to cause echoes in the Cowboys’ circle, but McCarthy rejects out of hand any blame directed at his players.
“It’s still fresh, I’m still shaken. It’s simple, one team played at their level and the other didn’t. Unfortunately we didn’t, so I’m very disappointed with our performance, just not playing at our level. I will not take any responsibility and nor should the players for the more than 20 years of disappointment,” McCarthy said at a press conference.
The last time the Cowboys managed to win a Super Bowl was in 1995, likewise that same year was the last time the franchise reached a conference championship game.
