Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin says that quarterback Kenny Pickett will return to his starting position heading into training camp.

Obviously there will be competition. There is always competition in this,” he said.

“I have a lot of confidence in him. I feel stronger about some of the intangible things than I obviously did when we first started doing business with him because I have proof of it. He is highly competitive and professional. He doesn’t run from challenges, he runs towards challenges. It’s a huge year for him,” Tomlin added.

Kenny Pickett started 12 games for the Steelers this season and finished with a 7-5 record, throwing for 2,070 yards with six touchdowns, giving up just four interceptions.

Out of action after an ankle injury Week 13 that saw Pickett undergo surgery, he lost the starting job with Mitchell Trubisky and Mason Rudolph filling in during his absence.

Pickett was selected in the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft and has a contract for the next two years with a salary cap hit of $3.8 million for next season.
