Mike Tomlin’s contract details: Salary and years remaining for the Steelers’ head coach
Steelers coach Mike Tomlin is the topic of a lot of NFL discussion. Here’s everything you need to know about his contract.

Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin, one of the longest-enduring leaders in the NFL, will remain under contract with the franchise through to the 2027 season after agreeing to a three-year extension in 2024.
Tomlin’s latest contract keeps him in Pittsburgh until at least the end of the 2027 campaign, barring any new extension or structural change that might be negotiated before then.
Financially, Tomlin’s compensation ranks among the highest for NFL head coaches. Reports indicate his contract is worth around $50 million over the three years, which breaks down to roughly $16.5 million annually. That figure places him inside the top tier of NFL coaching salaries, trailing only a handful of peers in annual pay.

The structure of his deal also includes provisions common among coaching contracts, such as protections that give Tomlin significant control over his career path. It is understood, for example, that his contract includes a no-trade clause, meaning that if another team tried to acquire him, Tomlin would have the right to block such a move.
Beyond basic salary and years, the Steelers face a key contractual decision in early 2026. Tomlin’s extension reportedly includes a team option for the 2027 season that must be formally exercised by March 1, 2026. If the club chooses not to pick up that option, Tomlin would enter the final year of his deal as a so-called “lame duck,” a status that teams generally try to avoid.
Tomlin’s contract journey with the Steelers reflects both his longevity and success in Pittsburgh. Since arriving in 2007, he has become the longest-tenured active head coach in the NFL and one of the most consistent in the sport’s history, guiding the Steelers to multiple playoff appearances and a Super Bowl victory without a single losing season.
