The Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Cincinnati Bengals 23-20 with a Chris Boswelll field goal as overtime expired but the offense left a lot to be desired .

Steelers quarterback Mitchell Trusbisky told the team’s website the teams knows that the offense can improve in certain aspects.

“We’re looking to get better,” Trubisky told reporters at the UPMC-Rooney Sports Complex. “We won the game, but there’s a lot we can improve on, specifically on third down, just our overall execution. I like the calls we were in. We’ve just got to go out and execute them more and keep our defense off the field. We’re looking to be better on third downs this week.”

The former Chicago Bears quarterback made it clear that the Steelers must have a more aggressive mentality to take advantage of the work done by their defense. Pittsburgh generated five changes of possession, but the offense he only generated 10 points from them.

“I was proud of the way we took care of the football, but you’ve got to have that aggressive mentality to score points. And it’s not just the calls, it’s got to be everybody on the field. It’s got to be a player’s mindset.”

Trubisky threw for 194 yards and a touchdown after completing 21 of 38 passes against the Bengals. The Steelers’ efficiency on third down was extremely low as they moved the chains on just four of 15 3rd downs.

Pats up next

As Josh Allen’s backup with the Bills, Trubisky prepared to face the Patriots three times last season and believes that gives him an edge heading into the Week 2 matchup at Acrisure Stadium.

“I followed them a lot last year,” Trubisky said of the New England. “We broke down every single game and we studied them a lot. That definitely helps preparing for this week. I’m looking at things I saw last year and seeing what I can carry into this year.”

According to the Steelers’ website, this will be the first Steelers-Pats game since 1998 that doesn’t feature Ben Roethlisberger or Tom Brady.
