New Netflix docuseries ‘Quarterback’: What do we know so far?
From entertainment, to history, to politics, or even true crime, Netflix has become the go to place for documentaries recently and they’ve just added another.
With the recent success of docuseries such as the tennis related ‘Break Point’ the streaming giant has now formed an exciting partnership with the NFL to bring us a tell-all show by the name of ‘Quarterback.’ Here’s a look at everything you need to know about Netflix’s upcoming show and one that promises to be the best in their docuseries portfolio so far.
What is Quarterback all about?
As mentioned above Netflix and the NFL have joined forces to bring us a behind-the-scenes take on America’s favorite game, football. Now, while that in itself may not seem like a completely new idea i.e., football docufilms and series have existed before, the fact is we’re getting a look at the game from the quarterback’s point of view, which is a different spin altogether.
Following the events of the entire 2022 season, ‘Quarterback’ focuses on the lives of a collection of quarterbacks, as they face challenges both on and off the field. With the use of in depth and exclusive scenes, we get an intimate look into the preparations, the huddles and even the family issues that some of the game’s best signal callers face. Produced by Omaha Productions, NFL Films and 2PM Productions - Patrick Mahomes’ own company - the series is clearly something the league is very proud of as evidenced by comments from Ross Ketover, NFL Films Senior Executive. “We are thrilled to partner with Netflix and could not be more excited for our first project together,” he said.
Who stars in Netflix’s ‘Quarterback?’
The show is set to follow the lives of three quarterbacks: Patrick Mahomes, Kirk Cousins, and Marcus Mariota. That’s to say, fans are about to get a look into what makes each of these men tick from both a sporting and personal point of view. Indeed, the series represents the first time that the NFL has allowed their quarterbacks to wear microphones for each and every game of the season. Where Mahomes specifically is concerned, the Chiefs star has spoken at length about the journey he’s taken during filming, which included the crew being present at family gatherings, as well as the culmination of the season, a Super Bowl win less than two weeks ago. Of course, we can also expect to see Cousins’ infamous comeback, as well as Mariota claiming the coveted starting spot with the Atlanta Falcons.
What is the release date for Netflix’s ‘Quarterback’
Though there has been no official word on a release date, word on the street is that we can expect to see ‘Quarterback’ premiering sometime in the summer, or Q2 to be more specific.
