The Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers are set for a showdown in the NFC Championship. A lot that has changed since they played last year.

They are the last teams standing in the NFC. They have been hands down the best teams in the NFC all season, and now they are set for a heavyweight bout with a ticket to the Super Bowl on the line. The Philadelphia Eagles and the San Francisco 49ers will go toe-to-toe for the first time in almost a year and a half.

No Purdy, No McCaffery, No AJ Brown in last matchup

Both of these teams looked very different the last time they met in Week 2 of last season. Jalen Hurts was in his sophomore season and it was still not sure if he was going to be the quarterback of the future.

After a 6 win season, Jimmy Garoppolo was still the starter in the eyes of Kyle Shanahan, despite San Francisco drafting Trey Lance that spring. As always, the backbone of the 49ers was their defense, and they showed up against the Eagles on that late summer day in Philly.

Philly’s offense was shut down for 56 minutes while Jimmy G and the offense jumped out to a 17-3 lead after missing a field goal and turning the ball over on downs in the first half.

San Fran back in NFC Championship

Garppolo finished off a 97 yard drive with an 11 yard TD pass to Jauan Jennings just seconds before haltime to put the Niners up 7-3. Jimmy G went for 189 yards and a TD on 22/30 passing, while Hurts was 12/23 for 190 yards but couldn’t get him team into the end zone until it was too late.

A nine minute drive that started in the third quarter and ended in the middle of the fourth quarter put the Niners in the drivers seat. Garoppolo put the nail in the Eagles coffin with a QB sneak to polish off the drive and the Robbie Gould put the cherry on top with a 46 yard field goal with five minutes on the clock as San Fran improved to 2-0.

The Niners would go on to the playoffs after a 10 win season, before losing to the eventual Super Bowl Champions, the LA Rams, in the NFC Championship. The Eagles would miss out on the playoffs after going 9-8, but here they are a year later playing for a spot in the Super Bowl.
