Having struggled once again this past season, the Jaguars are now in a coveted position, on the other hand they won’t be happy with the reason why they are there.

How many times have the Jaguars picked 1st in the NFL Draft?

In total the Jacksonville Jaguars have had the opportunity to select the No. 1 overall pick in the NFL Draft twice, with this year actually being the second consecutive time that they have done so. In last year’s NFL Draft they No. 1 overall pick was quarterback Trevor Lawrence. Lawrence it must be said, did not get off to a good start in the league, as indeed the Jaguars ended the season with a 3-14 record. Add to that, the controversy surrounding now former coach Urban Meyer and in all it was not a good year for the Jaguars.

Who could the Jaguars pick in the 2022 NFL Draft?

With what will most definitely be a transitional year for Jaguars coach Doug Pederson, all eyes now fall on just who the franchise will select in the coming NFL Draft. Pederson will be entering his first full season after Urban Meyer was fired in December, so picking correctly and in turn building effectively will be essential for a team that has been bottom of the pile, or close to over the last few seasons. So just who are the potential top picks in the Draft? First off it should be noted that the two players most likely to battle for top spot in the Draft are actually defensive players. Indeed, we’ve got Michigan’s Aidan Hutchinson and Georgia’s Travon Walker, both of whom turned in brutal displays for their respective schools in the last season of college football. With a recent mock draft placing Walker ahead of Hutchinson, it’s now a question of waiting to see.

Aidan Hutchinson

After putting in what can only be considered a legendary senior season with the Michigan Wolverines, defensive end Aidan Hutchinson has been hovering between No. 1 or No. 2 in practically every mock draft you can find. An exceptional athlete who has shown versatility, Hutchinson put in an impressive 62 tackles and 14 sacks during the 2021 season. While there have been concerns about his arm length and coverage, there is a good chance that he becomes the first Wolverine selected at the top spot since Jake Long in 2008.

Travon Walker

Then we have Georgia Bulldog’s Travon Walker, who turned many heads after his NFL Combine performance last month. This is interesting of course because until that point, Hutchinson would have been a sure bet to take the No. 1 spot. Why you ask? Simply because his numbers were far better during the pair’s last season. In total Walker posted just 37 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss, six sacks, two pass deflections and one fumble recovery for the Bulldogs in 2021. When compared to Hutchinson, the gulf in numbers is apparent, yet here we are. As was said before, now we wait and see.

What other picks do the Jaguars have?

In total the Jaguars actually have 12 picks in the 2022 NFL Draft. While this will likely look a little different after the Draft itself, take a look below for a breadown of just what that looks like:
