NFL Draft 2022: who is Travon Walker, the first pick?
The Jacksonville Jaguars had the first pick in the NFL Draft 2022 and they’ve chosen defensive end Travon Walker. Get to know this year’s top choice.
The NFL Draft 2022 kicked off with the Jacksonville Jaguars taking first pick, and unlike last year, when they went with a quarterback, this time they snapped up defensive end Travon Walker.
Travon Walker: Scouting Combine standout
The choice of Walker is no surprise as he was on many lists of top draft prospects for the year. His solid performance at the NFL Scouting Combine showed that he was likely to make it to the top ten in the Draft.
The University of Georgia alum is the first Bulldog to be chosen first overall in the NFL Draft since the Detroit Lions selected Matthew Stafford in 2009.
Travon Walker: Speed and strength
Walker is a defender who is quick enough to reach the quarterback on the edge or up the gut. He combines his aggression and strength with the speed required to make plays near the gaps. He is also a versatile edge rusher who has the ability to play at multiple spots up front. The 21-year-old, however, still needs to build his experience as a real edge defender.
He ended the Bulldogs’ title-winning season with 33 tackles and six sacks.
Walker went to Upton-Lee High School in Thomaston, Georgia, during which he was named to the 2019 All-American Bowl. He is 6 ft. 5 in. tall and weighs 275 pounds.
Here are his NFL Combine Results:
