NFL experts don’t hold back on Dallas Cowboys season predictions

The Cowboys had a poor season in 2024, so ahead of the new campaign, here’s what can we expect for 2025.

Ciudad de Mèxico Update:

The Dallas Cowboys closed last season with a 7–10 record, and few analysts believe things will improve. ESPN’s Ciro Procuna, John Sutcliffe, Pablo Viruega and Rebeca Landa told AS México why they expect the team known as the Lone Star to struggle again.

From Jerry to Dak: the Cowboys have problems

John Sutcliffe was blunt: “The problem in Dallas is Jerry Jones. That division has the champions (Philadelphia), it has Washington. With Dak Prescott they’re not going anywhere.”

Ciro Procuna echoed that, recalling Jones’s history of clashes with coaches: “There’s a series where they talk about how Jerry Jones fired Jimmy Johnson after two consecutive Super Bowls – with hate. It shows his hunger for the spotlight. It’s been almost 30 years without a Super Bowl. They’ve lost players, Dak Prescott is another year older, and Dallas has many problems. Head coach Brian Schottenheimer isn’t anyone’s first choice. I don’t see them with a winning record.”

Rebeca Landa was equally doubtful: “The defense couldn’t stop the run. I agree with Ciro – it has a lot to do with who’s at the top. There’s talent, but it reflects the person at the top, and it looks like it will stay that way, then eventually pass to his son. That affects Cowboys fans.”

Pablo Viruega added: “They’ve had problems signing players. I wouldn’t blame Dak Prescott for everything – he’s not an elite quarterback, but if they had a better team, there would be a bit more hope. To play in the NFL you have to be good, but it’s not all Prescott’s fault. He doesn’t have an elite running back. I don’t see Dallas in the postseason – I see them having a worse season than last year.”

Viruega also shifted focus to Kansas City’s star: “Patrick Mahomes has already shown he’s a quarterback on his way to the Hall of Fame. With his consistency and what he’s achieved so far, he’s already worthy of it.”

The NFL season kicks off Thursday, September 9, with the Philadelphia Eagles facing the Dallas Cowboys.
