NFL Hall of Fame 2026: Full list of new members and shocking omissions

The Pro Football Hall of Fame will officially welcome its newest members this week, with the Class of 2026 featuring some of the most iconic players of the modern NFL era.

The latest group heading to Canton includes a Super Bowl-winning quarterback, one of the greatest wide receivers in league history, a defensive superstar who dominated his position and one of the most clutch kickers the sport has ever seen. However, as always with the Hall of Fame voting process, the celebrations were accompanied by controversy, with several high-profile names left waiting.

While the new class features undeniable legends, the absence of names such as Bill Belichick, Eli Manning, and Torry Holt created plenty of debate among NFL fans.

Who is being inducted into the NFL Hall of Fame in 2026?

The Pro Football Hall of Fame Class of 2026 consists of five new members. Four were selected from the Modern-Era Players category, while one was chosen from the Seniors category.

The 2026 inductees are:

• Drew Brees - Quarterback
• Larry Fitzgerald - Wide Receiver
• Luke Kuechly - Linebacker
• Adam Vinatieri - Kicker
• Roger Craig - Running Back (Senior)

Drew Brees finally gets his gold jacket

Few players were more obvious selections than Drew Brees. The former New Orleans Saints quarterback enters Canton after a career that transformed both his franchise and the perception of smaller quarterbacks in the NFL. Brees finished his career with 80,358 passing yards and 571 touchdowns, ranking among the most productive passers in league history. He also led the Saints to their first Super Bowl championship and was named Super Bowl XLIV MVP.

Brees becomes one of the rare quarterbacks to enter the Hall of Fame on the first ballot, joining an exclusive group of players whose careers were considered among the defining performances of their generation.

Larry Fitzgerald and Luke Kuechly headline elite position groups

Larry Fitzgerald spent his entire 17-year career with the Arizona Cardinals and became one of the most respected wide receivers in NFL history.

The former No. 3 overall pick finished his career with 1,432 receptions, 17,492 receiving yards and 121 touchdowns, ranking second all-time in both receptions and receiving yards behind Jerry Rice. Fitzgerald was also an 11-time Pro Bowler and helped lead Arizona to Super Bowl XLIII.

Luke Kuechly’s path to Canton was defined by dominance despite a shorter career. The Carolina Panthers linebacker retired after only eight seasons but was named Defensive Rookie of the Year, won Defensive Player of the Year and earned seven Pro Bowl selections before stepping away from football at age 28.

Adam Vinatieri and Roger Craig complete the class

Adam Vinatieri became the first pure kicker since 1991 to enter the Hall of Fame, adding another chapter to one of the most decorated careers in NFL history.

Known for his legendary postseason moments with the New England Patriots and Indianapolis Colts, Vinatieri won four Super Bowls and became the NFL’s all-time leading scorer during his career.

Roger Craig was selected through the Seniors category after helping define the San Francisco 49ers dynasty of the 1980s. Craig became the first player in NFL history to record 1,000 rushing yards and 1,000 receiving yards in the same season and won three Super Bowls with San Francisco.

Biggest NFL Hall of Fame snubs from the Class of 2026

While the inductees celebrated, several legendary figures were left waiting for their call. The Hall of Fame’s selection process remains one of the most debated in sports, with a limited number of spots available each year. And the Class of 2026 finalists included several players and executives whose careers and achievements would normally appear strong enough for induction.

Bill Belichick: The most surprising omission

Perhaps the biggest surprise was the absence of Bill Belichick. The legendary coach was a finalist through the Coach category, but he was not selected despite a career that includes six Super Bowl championships as head coach of the New England Patriots and 333 total wins, including postseason victories.

Belichick’s omission immediately sparked debate because of his unmatched success during the Patriots dynasty alongside Tom Brady. However, the Hall of Fame process requires candidates to reach the necessary voting threshold, meaning even historic achievements are not guaranteed immediate induction.

Eli Manning waits again

Eli Manning was another major name left out. The two-time Super Bowl champion and two-time Super Bowl MVP returned as a finalist after missing selection in his first year of eligibility. Manning’s career included two iconic victories over the Patriots in Super Bowls XLII and XLVI, but voters again decided he would have to wait.

The debate surrounding Manning has centered around the contrast between his postseason success and his regular-season statistics compared with other Hall of Fame quarterbacks.

Torry Holt continues frustrating wait

Few Hall of Fame candidates have experienced a longer wait than Torry Holt. The former St. Louis Rams star was a finalist again in 2026, marking another year where his supporters argued that his production during the “Greatest Show on Turf” era deserved recognition. Holt was one of the NFL’s most consistent receivers during the 2000s and remains one of the most debated modern-era omissions.

The selections of Brees, Fitzgerald, Kuechly, Vinatieri and Craig were widely celebrated, yet the continued waits for Belichick, Manning and Holt ensure that the conversation around Canton’s standards will continue long after this year’s class is complete.
