NFL preseason games: Who plays on Thursday Aug. 8? Times and how to watch on TV, stream online

The Hall of Fame Game was last week, but the rest of the NFL preseason officially begins Thursday with all 32 teams participating.. Here’s the info for Thursday’s games.

THE NFL preseason began last week with the Pro Football Hall of Fame Game, when the Chicago Bears beat the Houston Texans 21-17 in Canton, Ohio. However, this week marks the start of the preseason for the rest of the teams, and all 32 teams will play.

The first two games begin this Thursday, August 8. The Carolina Panthers will travel to New England to take on the Patriots and the Detroit Lions will face the New York Giants on the road. Here’s everything you need to know about Thursday’s NFL preseason games and how to watch them on TV and stream them online.

The Panthers finished the 2023 season with a 2-15 record, marking their sixth straight losing season. They’re heading into the new season with their fifth head coach in three years. The Patriots didn’t have a great season last year either, ending the season with a 4-13 record and last in the AFC East. That marks their third losing season in the last four years.

The last time these two teams met in the preseason was in 2022, when the Patriots won 20-10 at Gilette Stadium. Their last regular season meeting was in 2021, when the Patriots won 24-6 in Carolina’s territory.

Detroit Lions @ New York Giants

Where: MetLife Stadium

The Giants and Lions are having joint practices this week ahead of the preseason game on Thursday and already it’s resulted in fights between the two teams. Last year, the Lions finished the regular season with a 12-5 record and made it to the NFC Championship game, but lost to the San Francisco 49ers. The Giants finished the regular season with a 6-11 record and third in the NFC East, missing the playoffs.

The most recent preseason between the two teams was last year when the Lions beat the Giants 21-16 in Detroit. The last time they met in the regular season was in 2022 when the Lions beat the Giants 31-18 on the road.
