NFL Week 6 winners and losers
Week 6 of the NFL saw more craziness as the Steelers beat Tom Brady and the Bucs, the Jets upset the Packers, and Sauce had the cheese knocked off his head.
What a fun season it’s been so far in the NFL. At this point, it seems like anything could happen. The Jets are actually decent? Tom Brady is at .500? The Packers are off to their worst start since 2012? It’s all true. There were some big fat losers this week plus some big dominant winners. Let’s take a look at the biggest.
NFL Week 6 Winners
Rhamondre Stevenson
The Patriots running back was regrettably sitting on my bench in fantasy this week as I thought Austin Ekeler and Aaron Jones would be enough. Ekeler was good, Jones was garbage, and Stevenson blew the stats out of the water. Stevenson finished the game against the Browns with 19 carries, 76 yards, plus four receptions, 15 receiving yards, and two touchdowns, including one 31-yard touchdown that he made look easy.
Tyreek Hill
Hill has had to work with three different quarterbacks since the season started, and it’s made absolutely no difference to his incredible performances. He’s put up at least 150 yards in three of the first six games this season and he just keeps seeing the targets. On Sunday, he had 12 receptions for 177 yards. Through the six games, he’s caught 50 passes for 701 yards and two touchdowns. He’s on pace to break Calvin Johnson’s record for receiving yards if he continues this way.
Joe Burrow-Ja’Marr Chase duo
These two have been a dynamic duo since they played together in college at LSU. On Sunday’s game against the Saints, Burrow had four touchdowns for 300 yards. Chase had seven receptions for 132 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winning touchdown on a 60-yard run with less than two minutes to play. The boys had themselves a day.
Breece Hall
The Jets beat the Packers. I repeat, the JETS beat the PACKERS. It’s a new year, new team in New York as they finally had a good draft year. Breece Hall was drafted in the second round and has been making an impact on the team through the first six weeks. On Sunday, he had 20 carries for 116 yards and a touchdown.
NFL Week 6 Losers
Aaron Rodgers
Was signing Rodgers to a contract extension a mistake? He’s dealing with a thumb injury, but even still, he and his offense have looked weak all season and he certainly hasn’t looked like a back-to-back MVP. He is starting to look old and tired, and like he doesn’t trust any of his receivers now that Davante Adams is gone. The Packers are off to a 3-3 start with Rodgers at QB, their worst start since 2012.
Tom Brady
Dejavu alert: here is another should-be MVP quarterback who is on a 3-3 team and looks as old and cranky as Rodgers does. For a player with such high standards, this season must really be killing Brady. On Sunday, the Buccaneers lost to a Steelers team with a rookie and backup quarterback leading them, and who had lost their previous four games in a row. They held Brady to just one touchdown and he averaged just 6.1 yards per attempt. He’s been held to just one touchdown in five of the last six games actually. It may just be that the combination of Brady’s age (is it finally catching up to him?) and the issues on the Bucs o-line mean an average season for the wishy-washy QB.
Kliff Kingsbury
The Cardinals’ issues on offense continue. They are 2-4 and last place in the NFC West after losing to the Seahawks, against whom they put up just nine points. The Seahawks defense had been giving up the most points in the league and the Cardinals offense was unable to get even one touchdown against them. Even Arizona’s defense managed to get a TD against Seattle’s defense. There was even a point in the game when the Cardinals had 10 plays for just 11 yards. Kliff may not be on the hot seat just yet, but he’s on his way if he doesn’t make some changes on this offense.
Lamar Jackson
Jackson ruined a 12-game winning streak against the Giants with an interception late in the fourth quarter. Well, not only because of that. On Sunday, he turned the ball over twice in the last three minutes of the game. This has been a trend all season for the quarterback. Through the first six games, in the fourth quarter, Jackson is 29 for 45 for 326 yards and four interceptions to just one touchdown.
