No big surprises in Cowboys’ first unofficial depth chart

The Dallas Cowboys kick off the regular season this Sunday, September 8 when they take on the Cleveland Browns on the road. With that, they’ve released their first unofficial depth chart.

It’s unofficial, of course, but with this, we get the first glimpse at all 22 starters heading into Week 1. There are no big surprises to note, but plenty of young guys will be making their first NFL starts right off the bat.

There are four rookies amongst the starters - offensive tackle Tyler Guyton, center Cooper Beebe, linebacker Marist Liufau, and cornerback Caelen Carson. Carson is filling in the spot for injured DaRon Bland and Guyton for injured Chuma Edoga, although Guyton may well have been given the start anyway.

As ESPN’s Todd Archer mentions in his post on X, wide receiver CeeDee Lamb is still listed as “Out”, and that is simply because he is still on the commissioner’s exempt list. Lamb is healthy and fit to take the field on gameday this Sunday.

Quarterback Cooper Rush won the battle to be Dak Prescott’s backup ahead of the young Trey Lance after Lance ended the preseason with five interceptions in the final game.

Ezekiel Elliott is listed as the starting running back, with Rico Dowdle just behind him. Osa Odighizuwa and Mazi Smith get the start on the interior defensive line with newcomers Jordan Phillips and Linval Joseph behind them, respectively.

On special teams, everything is as expected with Brandon Aubrey as the one and only kicker, Bryan Anger at punter, and Trent Sieg at long snapper.

Again, it’s unofficial and things can still change before Sunday, but it’s unlikely to change too much from what we have here.
