Parsons escalates trade drama, scrubs Cowboys from X profile
Tensions between Dallas Cowboys owner Jerry Jones and star linebacker Micah Parsons are growing more tense by the day as contract talks continue to stall.
The contract standoff between the Dallas Cowboys and their star edge rusher is ongoing. After a calm start that saw Micah Parsons showing up to practice despite no deal, things escalated quickly. By the start of training camp, Parsons had lost his patience with owner Jerry Jones and his careless comments about Parsons’ injuries and nonchalance about getting a deal done.
He requested a trade on August 1, and since then, no progress has been made.
All-Pro edge Micah Parsons: “I no longer want to be here”
Jones just told Michael Irvin on his YouTube channel that he made an offer that would’ve made Parsons the “highest-paid guaranteed player other than a quarterback in the NFL”, but said Parsons’ agent told them to “stick it up our ass”.
Things escalated even further on Thursday when the three-time All-Pro scrubbed his social media of all Dallas references, replacing them with imagery from his college, Penn State, and a Bible verse: “Even if I fall, I will rise. The Lord is my light.”
Parsons is under contract with Dallas for $24 million in 2025, but wants a long-term extension. Dallas could theoretically retain him via franchise tags through 2027, but Parsons has made it clear he no longer wants to be with the team.
The dispute comes amid a rising market for edge rushers, following T.J. Watt’s record $123 million extension with Pittsburgh. Parsons has 52.5 sacks in four seasons and is reportedly seeking a deal that surpasses Watt’s. Despite the tension, head coach Brian Schottenheimer expects Parsons to play in the season opener against the Eagles.
