Patrick Mahomes reveals life lesson he learned from Taylor Swift

The Kansas City Chiefs quarterback has spoken about his friendship with the musician and what she has already taught him.

Singer-songwriter sensation Taylor Swift attended her first Chiefs game on September 24 last year, to witness Kansas City crush the Bears 41-10 at Arrowhead Stadium. It was the most watched NFL game that week on any network. You decide why.

That night, Chiefs players, including Patrick Mahomes, met Swift for reportedly the first time. From there, the singer formed a friendship with the quarterback’s wife, Brittany, as her relationship with Travis Kelce also developed. Mahomes spoke about meeting Taylor in an interview with TIME magazine earlier this year.

Patrick Mahomes’ opinion of Taylor Swift

The NFL star spoke about how he sees Swift as a “sensible person” despite the level of fame she has. “I’ve met a lot of famous people in my life,” Patrick told TIME. “Taylor’s probably the most down-to-earth person that’s been on that stage for that long,” he added.

“She never stops working,” he continued. “Even when she’s taking her downtime, she’s working on something. Shooting a music video or singing a song or writing a song. You can see it by how she talks. Even when she’s talking about football, when she’s learning it, you can see her business mind putting it together. It’s almost like she’s trying to become a coach. ‘Why can’t you try this, this, and this?’ She’s asking the right questions”.

Is Taylor Swift a Chiefs distraction?

The multiple Grammy winner attended 13 Chiefs games, both home and away - her presence was questioned by some NFL fans, who pointed out that it was a distraction for the team due to the hysteria it created. However that didn’t seen to affect the Chiefs’ performances - they became the first team in 20 years to win back-to-back Super Bowls after beating the 49ers 25-22 at February’s event.

We didn’t let other people’s outside noise affect us,” Mahomes notes. “Even though we struggled throughout the season, we kept our minds in the right places. Whenever the lights got the brightest, guys showed up”.

And as for how the Chiefs went from being a national team to a global one, he explained: “We just embraced it. We like having that visibility. At the end of the day, football has always been this bruising sport. We want to make it fun, where kids grow up and play football and show their personality and be who they are. This year really magnified that”.
