Prescott returns with the Cowboys; scores first touchdown of season
Prescott is back with the Cowboys for the first time since surgery on his thumb, and has already scored his first touchdown of the season
Dak is back, and he started for the Cowboys for the first time in five weeks tonight as Dallas hosted the Detroit Lions at AT&T Stadium in Texas.
The quarterback has been out since Week 1 of the 2022 NFL season after breaking a finger which required surgery. He missed the past five games, though Cooper Rush did a great job filling in, helping the Cowboys to a 4-1 record in that span. Dallas averaged 128 yards on the ground in those five games, a remarkable accomplishment considering they never once topped 230 passing yards.
Prescott, however, is now expected to help the Cowboys’ offense bring back its explosiveness that has been lacking through Rush’s five starts.
Dak scores first touchdown pass this season
The 29-year-old did not have the smoothest start on the field tonight against Detroit, which is expected after not playing for five weeks and recovering from his injury. Prescott got sacked twice in the first half, with a few sloppy passes, but he did help Dallas smash the Lions in a 24-6 win. He started to look more like himself in the second half, and didn’t throw any interceptions.
Additionally, he scored his first TD pass of the season.
What was Dak Prescott’s injury?
Prescott sustained a right thumb injury in the Cowboys’ Week 1 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and was initially thought to be out for at least nine weeks. The quarterback had surgery on his fractured thumb just two days after suffering the injury on Sept. 11. Prescott had one of his worst NFL performances that night, failing to lead the offense into the end zone.
