Rage-proof? The NFL’s latest innovation is built for chaos
Sony has partnered with the NFL to create a fully redesigned coach’s headset and here’s why the changes will have a major impact.
The NFL and Sony have partnered to launch a fully redesigned coach’s headset for the 2025 season, focused on delivering reliable communication under the intense conditions of an NFL sideline.
The NFL’s newest toy is built to last
Developed using input from coaches and extensive testing, the new headsets feature advanced noise-canceling technology, improved voice isolation, and automatic mute functions to adapt to real-time coaching demands.
Built with durability in mind, the headsets were tested in extreme weather simulations, ranging from freezers to showers, and drop-tested to withstand the emotional intensity of game day, including coach tantrums. The custom-designed microphones are tailored to capture only the coach’s voice, even in stadiums exceeding 100 decibels.
The headsets will debut publicly during the 2025 Hall of Fame Game on July 31 and will be integrated across all 32 teams for the season, connected through Verizon’s private wireless solution. The effort marks the latest innovation in the NFL’s growing technology partnership with Sony, following the league’s prior deal with Bose that ended in 2022.
